Chapter Four: Marked by the Spirit of Mercy.

Isaiah 11:2. The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him: a spirit of wisdom and understanding, a spirit of counsel and of strength, a spirit of knowledge and of fear of the Lord.

Dressed in a beautiful pink dress and hand decorated white sash, emboldened with the name, St. Bridget of Sweden, the young girl, now twelve-years-old, made her way towards the front of the church. Approaching the Archbishop, she was struck by the beauty of his vestments and miter. Beneath the miter, she noticed his kind eyes gazing upon her, as he gently placed his hands on her forehead and said, “Send forth, upon this child, thy sevenfold gifts of the Spirit, the Holy Paraclete.” Next, he anointed her forehead with holy chrism and said, “I sign thee with the sign of the cross and confirm thee with the chrism of salvation, in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.” She returned to her seat, enriched with the strength of the Holy Spirit, now and forever marked with an indelible, spiritual seal. This mark, indicating her total belonging to the Healing Eyes of Mercy, came with a promise of divine protection, which allowed her, as an adoptive daughter of God, to cry out, “Abba, Father, help me,” when she felt alone or overwhelmed in the face of future trials. At that moment, she had no way of knowing just how much she would need this divine protection when facing the allures and temptations of darkness confronted by each of God’s children.

The Upper Room or Cenacle, Latin for “dining room”, is a room in Jerusalem traditionally held to be the site where many New Testament events took place, including the Last Supper, certain resurrection appearances by Jesus, the gathering of the disciples after the Ascension of Jesus, the election of St. Matthias as apostle, and the descent of the Holy Spirt upon the disciples at Pentecost. Pilgrims to Jerusalem report visiting a structure on Mount Zion, commemorating the Last Supper, since the fourth century A.D. The building has experienced numerous cycles of destruction and reconstruction, which has culminated in the Gothic structure which stands today. Located on the lower level is another site of interest, the traditional burial site of King David.

Ephesians 1:13. In him you too were chosen; when you heard the glad tidings of salvation, the word of truth, and believed in it, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit who had been promised.

Closing 3:00 p.m. prayer for Divine Mercy.

Eternal Father, I offer You, the Body and Blood, soul and divinity of your dearly beloved Son, Our Lord, Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and the sins of the entire world.

For the sake of His Sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the entire world. (repeat two more times).

Jesus, I trust in You, Amen.
